Εισηγητές

Dr. Anne Margaret Smith has been teaching English for 25 years and is also dyslexia specialist tutor.  Her company, ELT well, aims to bring these two fields of education closer together, by sharing good practice from both sides. Anne Margaret teaches on the MA TESOL at the University of Cumbria and was part of the DysTEFL project which was awarded a British Council ELTon last year.

Anastasia Metallinou (BA Hons, MEd) is an experienced English language teacher and dyslexia (SpLDs) specialist. She is the co-author of English Sounds Fun (www.englishsoundsfun.com ) which is the first highly structured and self-contained teaching method designed specifically for dyslexic learners of English as a foreign language. Anastasia is also a teacher trainer and presents her work in numeral EFL and dyslexia conferences internationally.

Σε ποιούς απευθύνεται

It is a hands-on workshop designed for foreign language professionals in Greece - teachers at public and foreign language schools, private lessons teachers, directors of studies, school owners who are interested in Dyslexia and LD.

Περιγραφή Σεμιναρίου

Working with a group that includes a dyslexic learner may seem difficult; perhaps you are worried that your dyslexic student will require a lot of extra materials that you will not have enough time to prepare.  This workshop will reassure you that with a bit of clever organisation and some small changes to your classroom management, you can keep using the same textbook, and still make sure that all your learners can be included.

After establishing what the main challenges are likely to be for a dyslexic learner using a typical EFL course book, we will offer an overview of some general principles that will help you to ‘work smarter – not longer’!  Finally, there will be an opportunity to apply these principles to your own teaching practice. Please bring with you a text book that you are currently using or that you are familiar with.

Περιγραφή Σεμιναρίου

This workshop will be divided into three main parts.

The first part will briefly cover the theory behind both task and project based learning and look at some of the differences and similarities.

The second and third parts of the workshop will be very much more practical and focus on the practice of both task and project based learning, respectively.

High, low, and no-tech alternatives will be explored for each of the tasks that we explore in more detail. There will also be opportunities to share ideas and create tasks that complement the type of teaching you do in your classrooms in Greece.

In this session we will first examine ideas about how it is possible to set up an extensive reading programme in schools and with an individual class.
