I am utterly bewildered and overwhelmed. I am struggling my way around the book exhibition at an ELT conference. What a bombardment of books! ‘How do teachers even begin to choose?’ I ask myself.

A few years ago I had a break from ELT and had some catching up to do. As I read through the ELT journals I am struck by the multitude of exciting ideas on offer and the wealth of ‘good practice’ available. And I ask myself that same question again: How do we teachers even begin to make choices about what to do in the classroom?

Spring ‘22 Virtual International Publishers Exhibition

One thing these past two years have made us realise is the great potentials technology is serving us. People managed to preserve communication under rough conditions and restrictions and that is an asset we simply can not ignore.

 As the saying goes: ‘If it works, don’t fix it!’. Imagine you have a game you have used countless times in class. It’s a very simple vocabulary revision quiz. You divide your class into two (or more) groups and then you read out the clues: ‘What do you call someone who is always on time?’ The first person to raise their hand and answer correctly scores two points for the group. It’s simple, it’s easy and it’s great fun. Why change anything?

ANSWER:  It might be that the children are in need of some 'down time'.  They do often come to afternoon classes very tired or quite wound up.    In either case, it may be that they need to relax, both physically and mentally.

You can lead the children in a self-massage to help them to relax, and to restart.  (EFL pupils in China taught a colleague of ours a quiet time 'massage', which they perform periodically in class.)  The instructions for this massage procedure are numbered below:

Γι' αυτό όλο και περισσότεροι επιχειρηματίες ενσωματώνουν πλέον στις προωθητικές τους ενέργειες μία σειρά από προγράμματα πιστότητας. Κάποια από αυτά πετυχαίνουν. Κάποια άλλα όχι. Για την πρώτη κατηγορία, μπορούμε να πούμε πολλά.

Για τους πελάτες σας, δεν έχει τόσο σημασία ο ισοσκελισμένος σας ισολογισμός. Δεν νοιάζονται ιδιαίτερα για τη νέα μηχανή που εγκαταστήσατε πριν ένα μήνα με τεχνολογία state-of-the-art και τριπλάσια δυνατότητα παραγωγής. Δεν είναι καν οι πιστοποιήσεις ISO που κοπιάσατε τόσο πολύ για να τις αποκτήσετε που τους ενδιαφέρουν.
