Earlier this year a report of the workshop ‘Adapting your coursebook for learners with SpLDs’ was published here, outlining the main ideas that came out of it: 1) the layout of the pages; 2) the amount of material to be covered, and 3) the activities in the lesson. This follow-up article focusses on the third of these issues, which proved to be the area that teachers felt they had most freedom to adapt to suit their students. Here, some of the ideas from the workshop are explored in more detail, taking typical coursebook activities skill by skill.

I was in London recently and had time to kill, so I decided to stop somewhere for a coffee. It’s not difficult these days. Everywhere you go, especially in the UK, there are places to get coffee - from major chains to independent cafes. The rise and rise of coffee consumption globally is phenomenal, and the British drink more coffee than ever before. I don’t know if we now drink more coffee than the tea which our steroetype would normally demand, but I know it must be a lot.

Οι περισσότεροι πελάτες μου αναθέτουν την εργασία σε κάποιον γραφίστα. Σαφώς όλοι σας γνωρίζετε ποια είναι η δραστηριότητα ενός γραφίστα. Αυτό που ίσως δεν γνωρίζετε καλά είναι πόσο χρήσιμος μπορεί να σας φανεί ένας κειμενογράφος και πόσο απαραίτητος είναι σε κάθε δημιουργία μακέτας.

ANSWER: Part of our year syllabus for our intermediate-and-above level teenage learners needs to focus on developing Study Skills Outside of Class. As we require parents' support to further this aim, it is important to encourage these learners to discuss their new study strategies with their parents.
Here we'd like to present activities designed to help teens make their homework practices more effective.
HOMEWORK -- KEEPING TRACK AND KEEPING ON TRACK:
ANSWER: Here is a suggestion "In This Situation, What Would You Say and Do?"--a guided group work writing and speaking activity, in which intermediate level learners have the opportunity to write exchanges and short dialogues--appropriate to specific social situations. There is minimal preparation and the entire 'double' activity should take approximately 20 minutes.
